An oil catchtank is a system that feeds oil vapour into a separate tank, the catchtank. The oil catch tank is a widely used tuning engine part, which is unfortunately offered by a lot of dealers in many cheap variants. The "cheap" versions can cause an engine fire in the worst case, because mostly connections and workmanship are so bad that oil vapours can get into the engine compartment and ignite.

Every engine generates a so-called crankcase pressure in the engine during operation. This pressure consists of oil steams, which form when the oil becomes hot and the crankshaft is immersed in the oil with each rotation. This crankcase pressure must be led out of the engine, otherwise seals and components will be damaged. For this reason, every engine has a ventilation system, which usually consists of two openings. One is located on the engine block and the other on the cylinder head cover. Hoses and a pressure regulating valve are connected there, which leads the oil vapours back into the intake unfiltered! The oil vapours are therefore added to the combustion process and burned. However, this inevitably leads to various problems:

  • The knock resistance is reduced, therefore higher risk of engine damage
  • Injectors, throttle bodies, turbocharger compressor housings, intercoolers, pipes, sensors and intake valves are permanently wetted with oil vapours
  • In the long run, this leads to corking of the inlet valves & intakes and can cause the valves to break off
  • Bad idle, misfiring, loss of power and increased fuel consumption are also a result of this process

The solution: An oil catch tank

An oil catch tank filters the oil vapours out of the crankcase. The oil condenses in the oil catch tank and collects in the container. The air cleaned of oil is then returned to the air filter box or discharged into the open. In the open variant, the filtered air is discharged directly into the environment; this is not permitted in the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations and could pollute the environment if the catch tank system fails.

Many manufacturers use simple aluminium containers, but these "cheap" oil catch tanks do not solve the real problem and have several disadvantages:

  • Mostly only with two connections
  • No buffling
  • Without filters
  • Will leak quickly and are not able to bind the oil vapours so that only clean air is returned

There is no need for an extra filter outside the oil catch tank. All necessary connections are included in the set.

Nuke Carbon Universal Performance Oil Catch Can

Nuke Performance universal 0,75 litre Oil Catch Can with its canister in real lightweight carbon. The series of Nuke Performance Oil Catch Cans are used worldwide already, and within every kind of motorsports and tuning style but we thought we could take it to the next level - therefor we now have developed a lighter, more "bad-ass-looking" top-notch carbon version of our Performance Catch Can of 0,75-litre internal capacity.
